The Fennville Training
Facility was constructed in 1980, and has trained hundreds of Union Carpenter
and Millwright apprentices in Southwestern Michigan. Carpenter apprentices
attend school one day every other week for a total of 672 hours over four years.
The Fennville Training Center also provides training for millwright apprentices
from western and northern Michigan. Millwright apprentices attend school in a
"block training" format, attending for one week at a time, four times
per year. Millwright apprentices must complete a total of 640 hours of related
training over four years. Counties served by the Fennville facility are colored

centrally located facility services contractors and apprentices in the Northern
Lower Peninsula. Apprentices attend school one day every other week for a total

The Marquette Training
facility services contractors and Apprentices for the entire Upper Peninsula.
Apprentices attend school in a "block training" format, attending for

provides apprenticeship training for millwright apprentices from the Upper

The Detroit program consists of a four-year course of practical on-the-job training, supplemented by attendance once every two weeks at the Detroit Carpentry Apprenticeship School.
During the apprenticeship term, the apprentice is paid an ascending scale of wages ranging from approximately 44 percent of the journeyman's scale when training begins to 85 percent during the final period of apprenticeship. In addition, they also receive vacation, holiday, pension and insurance benefits included in a carpenter's gross day's pay for attending classes on a regular attendance day.
Applications to the Detroit Carpentry Joint Apprenticeship and Training School will be accepted
any Wednesday, 9:00 a.m. to Noon at the school office throughout the year. Applicants must present the
following in order to make application:
(1) Birth Certificate
(2) High School Diploma or G.E.D.
(3) Social Security Card
(4) Driver's License or State of Michigan Identification.
Upon placement with an employer, applicants must pass a drug test to be eligible to continue their participation in the Apprenticeship Program. Our applicants are encouraged to solicit work from any of our contributing contractors.
The direct entry of apprentices into the carpentry program is made from letters of sponsorship signed, completed and dated by employers acceptable to the Committee. The selection is made on the basis of the letter of sponsorship and qualifications without regard to race, creed, color, national origin, sex or occupationally irrelevant physical requirements. This program shall be operated on a completely nondiscriminatory basis in accordance with objective standards, which permits review after full and fair opportunity for application.
